Appearing by Zoom

How to prepare for a virtual court date.

A few simple steps can help your appearance go smoothly.

Join early

Log in 10 to 15 minutes before your matter is scheduled. Courtrooms often move quickly through the list.

Use your full name

Set your Zoom display name to your full legal name so the court clerk can identify you.

Stay muted

Keep your microphone muted until your name is called, then speak clearly and address the court respectfully.

Check your setup

Use a stable connection and a charged device. Test your camera and audio before you join.

Dress for court

A virtual appearance is still a court appearance. Dress and behave as you would in person.

Have documents ready

Keep your court papers, release order, and any notes close at hand in case you need them.

Questions

Virtual court FAQ

Are these Zoom coordinates up to date?

This list was last updated in January 2023. Courts change virtual courtroom coordinates from time to time, so always confirm with the courthouse, your court documents, or your lawyer before your appearance.

What if my courtroom isn't listed?

Check your court documents or contact the courthouse's criminal court office directly. If you're represented, your lawyer can confirm the correct coordinates for you.

Do I need a lawyer for a virtual court appearance?

You're not required to have a lawyer to appear, but legal advice can make a significant difference, especially at bail hearings, pleas, and trials. Baregzay Law can appear on your behalf in many matters.

Have a court date coming up?

Don't face it alone. Talk to a criminal defence lawyer before your appearance.
